The CLAT stands for Common-Law Admission Test. CLAT is a centralized national-level entrance test. especially, to get admissions into the best National Law Universities (NLU)s in India. The Government law schools and the private law schools present in India are taking admissions using these CLAT scores.

To get admission into the undergraduate degree in Law (BA LLB) and Laws(LL.M) programs offered by the law schools. Students appear in this test after passing the 12th-grade exam. And this exam is one of the toughest entrance examinations in India. This test score is vital in the hiring process of various public sector undertakings like ONGC, Steel Authority of India, Oil India, etc., for the legal post in their companies.

Eligibility 

Eligibility criteria for attempting the clat entrance examinationNational Law Universities (NLUs) release the CLAT eligibility criteria details regarding the minimum educational qualification, minimum marks, and age limit for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Only Indian nationals and NRIs can appear in the test, considering the eligibility criteria. The foreign selected candidates who are desired to take admission to any course in relevant Law Universities can directly contact the concerned university having allotted seats for foreign nationals.

 

Under Graduate Courses

Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) having an equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in the case of SC and ST candidates). There is no upper age limit in the eligibility criteria of the test.

Post Graduate Courses

LL.B/B.L. Degree has an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in the case of SC and ST candidates). 

 Exam Pattern

The duration of this law entrance exam is of two hours. The question paper of CLAT consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. There are five different sections in the CLAT exam paper which are:

  • English including comprehension
  • Current affairs, including General Knowledge
  • Legal Reasoning 
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Quantitative Math aptitude

All the questions which are asked in the examination are of paragraph-based type. One paragraph will consist of 5-6 questions. The marks assisted to each section are English 30, Current Affairs including General Knowledge 37, Quantitative math aptitude 15, Logical Reasoning 30, and Legal Reasoning 38.

Marking Basic criteria: For every correct answer, aspirants are offered one mark, and for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the net score.
